In this book review, I take a look at Abi Elphinstone’s Rumblestar. It’s the first in a series of three called The Unmapped Chronicles and is preceded by Everdark. The author’s storytelling skills are second to none and she has an incredible way with words, as evidenced in the beautifully imaginative names of various creatures and places. The story follows risk-averse 11-year-old Casper as he voyages into the Unmapped Kingdom of Rumblestar, together with Utterly, leaving behind his own world of Faraway. In this new world, he finds himself faced with the impossible task of saving the kingdom and its magic from an evil harpy called Morg and her winged Midnights. This tale is positively bursting with magic, imagination and adventure. It is absolutely breathtaking.
